Vertebroplasty can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. During the procedure, a small incision is made in the skin and a needle is inserted into the bony part of the spine under fluoroscopy (x-ray) guidance. Bone cement is injected into the inside of the spine through the needle. Bone cement stabilizes the spine and relieves pain. The procedure usually takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
